My First Acid Trip

TRIGGER WARNING: Suicide. This is the story of my first acid trip. If you are going to try psychedelics, please read my harm reduction guide first so you don’t have a bad trip: https://johnnybelgium.blogspot.com/2022/09/johnny-belgiums-psychedelic-trip-guide.html Club 27 is a group of famous musicians that died when they were 27. Most of them died from drug use. That includes alcohol. I’m in a different club 27. My life began when I was 27 years old because of an LSD trip. My mother was a certified schizophrenic and never got the help she needed because she was too paranoid. My father had issues too. Long story short: I had a crappy childhood. I think I had a mood disorder before the acid cured me. I remember having panic attacks in kleuterklas (school ages 3 to 6). Sometimes I was really really angry without an apparent cause. I didn’t know how to talk to people. Like many boomers my parents thought children raised themselves and didn’t need to be parented and socialized. As a t...

Alcohol Is A Sucky Drug

The first time I drank alcohol was a disaster. I had just turned 16, the legal drinking age in Belgium, and was at the wedding of a cousin of mine. The waitress kept bringing me beers and I was too much of an anxious people pleaser to say no. So I kept drinking the beers she brought me and I got very very drunk. I had no idea what alcohol did. I got so drunk that I vomited on the dancefloor on my way to the bathroom. I spend the rest of the party dry heaving outside on a chair. I couldn’t keep my head up because I was spinning like a dreidel on Hanukkha. The mother of the groom cleaned up my mess. Some members of the family still bring it up to this day more than twenty years later. Bad choices, good stories. But better someone else. The bride later cheated on the groom and tried to steal his life savings but that’s beside the point. My grandfather on my father’s side was an alcoholic mailman. When he got his paycheck he got blind drunk and terrorized his family. My grandmother fled th...

How To Never Be Wrong (Remember Your Sources)

I love to whet my horns (hone my skills) in internet debate. I've been doing it since 1998. It was on UBB forums then (Ultimate Bulletin Board - a forum software most forums used). It's how I learned to write English. People tell me the internet is just people yelling at each other and you can't change minds but I have gained lots of insights from debating people online. Often deepening my knowledge about a subject, even if they don't change my mind. I love to challenge what I believe against people determined to prove me wrong. On the internet. In real life I find it awkward. It's horribly embarrassing when you realize you have been proven wrong. It has happened to me a few times and it feels like a punch in the stomach. It makes me sick to have been wrong. Tip one would be to be graceful in defeat and admit that you were wrong. Do not start writing gibberish or moving the goalpost. Live in doubt. Doubt everything you believe, everything people tell you and keep ha...

"Be Yourself And Don't Care What People Think" Is Bad Advice

Bad advice that I often come across is to be yourself and not to care what people think. If you really decide not to care what people think you might become a sociopath. You may find yourself masturbating on a bench in the park, if you really really stop caring what people think. We are social animals. We as a civilization are a super organism of hyper collaborative apes. We depend on others whether we like it or not. What people think of you is very important. Being successful is very much a process of being selected by people who were successful before you. If you want someone, like a bank, to lower down a ladder for you, then they need to like you. If you are selling a product, it will sell itself if people like you. If you want to make friends, which is even more important than being financially successful, you have to work on being a person people want to be around. If I think about myself and the people I know 5 years ago, and another 5 years before that  and so on... the cha...

Two Rules For Life

1. All Life Is Sacred 2. You Will Not Harm

How To Save The Living Planet

A financial system that demands compounding, accelerating economic growth and industrial civilisation is quickly killing the living planet.  It may be the only life in the universe.  It's the only habitat that supports human life. It's a gamble that we as animals can survive without the wild.  Without abundant and diverse wildlife I personally don't see the point of humanity. Life is sacred. Life is God. If everything is just us, the few species we domesticated and a mountain of gadgets, then we have essentially killed the planet.  There is a low tech solution to save life on earth. And that is degrowth. To shrink the economy. For humanity to have a smaller ecological footprint.  Some of the degrowth measures require government action but some you can do right away. Some say it is too late to save the planet. But we can't predict the future and we must not give up on life on earth. We can mitigate the damage we do. Here is what we can do: 1. Take Personal Respon...

How To Meditate And Be Mindful

In 2013 I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital after walking around with psychosis for more than a year. The medication they gave me worked a charm and stopped my psychosis, which at the end had become a non stop nightmare. But the medication also stopped my thoughts and I had a constant feeling of being tired and being restless at the same time. A very uncomfortable feeling. Once a week there was a group therapy session that alleviated that feeling of tired restlessness. It was called Relaxation Therapy and it was the same every week. We would lie on mattresses on the floor and do a meditation exercise called: the body scan. In the body scan the ergo therapist guides you as you become aware of every part of your body. The session starts by focusing on and slowing down and deepening your breathing. Then, starting at the toes and going to your head, you become aware of every part of your body and contract and then deeply relax all your muscles one by one. Once a week, when we had Rela...

Johnny Belgium’s Psychedelic Trip Guide (updated)

I started doing psychedelic drugs late in life at the age of 27 and I regret not doing them sooner. They saved me. I had a miserable life before psychedelics. I was anxious, depressed and antisocial. I was a recluse without a friend in the world. I was arguing with people in my head all day long at work, triggered by stuff on TV. I was a psychological mess. And my first LSD trip was like 20 years of therapy in one afternoon. Click here to read about my 'breakthrough' first acid trip. I have done lots of LSD and some Mushrooms. I haven’t done DMT, Ayahuasca, Mescaline,... LSD is my vice. I did MDMA twice and it made me very relaxed but also it made me very sick the day after. People often get depressed after taking XTC. I also recommend staying away from uppers or downers and sticking to psychedelics. No cocaine, no speed, no benzos or opiods like heroin or fentanyl, ... They are not good drugs. They will eff up your life. Stick to tripping if you are going to partake in drugs. ...
