The Smartest Thing You Can Say Is: I Don't Know
Does God exists in the form claimed by the major religions? I haven't seen anything to make me believe that. But I don't know. I'm fairly certain that he doesn't exist. But I did have a voice in my head for months claiming to be God. Perhaps God is a voice in all our heads, when we try to listen.
What about the future? Is climate change real? I watched hundreds of hours on climate change, but that's just talking heads. Stories. I believe in climate change because I don't think it's a conspiracy. I only know some talking points, without deep understanding.
No one can accurately predict the future, I think. Predictions can change how people behave, and alter that prediction. A prediction should include an IF statement. IF this, THEN that. Some things are more certain than others.
Are we going extinct? Eventually yes, according to Astrophysics. The sun will expand and swallow the earth, I've heard. But I know almost nothing of how a sun works. I'm fairly certain space colonization is a fantasy. Because that used to be a scientific fact before The Musk Hype Train came into town.
IF Sperm Count Scientist Shanna Swan is right, humans and animals across the planet may become infertile by 2045. IF the current trend in Sperm Count Decline continues. She seems to know what she is talking about. She sounds skeptical and sciency. I have a concentration problem though. I tune in and out. I miss probably 80% of what she says.
I remember a lot more animals in my town, in my youth. Science backs it up that Life is disappearing. According to a paper, between 1970 and 2020, humans eradicated 73% of wildlife, as an average across some 5000 vertibrate species. I notice that there are a lot less mosquitos.
The human population was 2.5 Billion 70 years ago. Now over 8 Billion. And 99% eat animal products, which requires vast resources like land and fertilizer.
I believe there is a physical reality out there. More real than these stories in our heads. I believe we are destroying our habitat: The Living Planet. For one thing, Life produces Oxygen, which is rapidly declining. The media omits this, but I looked it up myself.
I believe Fossil Fuels are finite and irreplaceable in Industrial Civilization. I believe Synthetic Fertilizer is finite, and irreplaceable in Industrial Farming.
Will the Nukes fly? I don't know. Will we geoengineer to mitigate global heating, and risk changing where the rain falls? I don't know. Will Belgium be bombed? I don't know. Can AI think? I don't know.
According to science: it takes the same amount of heat to melt ice, as it does to heat water from 0°C to 80°C (100°C is boiling). Namely 334 Joules per gram of water. When global heating has finnished melting the ice, that energy will go into heating the planet.
Science says that the speed of heating is hundreds of times faster than The End Permian Extinction Event. Science also says that this isn't true. So you can pick which one fits your narrative. The End Permian Extinction is a global heating event right before the dinosaurs that killed 96% of Life. Only small animals make it through extinction events.
Oceans take up CO2 and this causes ocean acidification. This might kill the oceans. They become anoxic (without oxygen) and bacteria start producing the extremely deadly H2S gas. Which smells like rotting eggs.
A warming ocean also can't hold as much oxygen.
Climate change might also shut down the ocean currents, like the AMOC. This as well makes the oceans anoxic (because the ocean isn't mixing) producing this deadly H2S gas. According to extinction expert Peter Ward, H2S gas poisoning due to warming events is responsible for almost all mass exitinctions in the history of Life on This Tiny Planet.
I believe the earth is round because I believe it's not a conspiracy. I believe in limits because of that. We can't keep taking up more space, using up more non-renewable resources, dumping our waste into the environment like CO2, Plastic, PFAS chemicals, Pesticides... without a limit.
This is my story. This is my obsession. Other people believe in God, or believe Star Trek is a prophecy (instead of a fictional television show for kids).
I don't know. It's talking points. I'm just a nobody. I just believe the scientists who believe in limits.
peace 🧡✌️🌱
